Sharrieff Rashed
January, 1959 - September, 2005
Shodan, Nisei Goju-Ryu
Sharrieff was born in California and moved to New York as a teenager, attending New Rochelle High School.
While riding a bicycle along a New Rochelle street, he was struck by a car and rammed into a tree.
The driver fled the scene of the accident. Due to the severity of the collision, Sharrieff's right
arm was paralyzed.
He always loved the martial arts, especially the "Kung Fu" movies of the 1970's, which led him to our small
dojo on North Avenue, New Rochelle. In June 1980, he joined the New Rochelle Karate Institute, looking to
release the anger created by his horrible accident. The timing was right. He wanted to fight and here were
the fighters: Warren Young, Mitsuru and Toru Ishikawa, Thomas Jackson (deceased) and R. A. Fitzpatrick.
